The Chess Table
The Chess Table is located in the Summerside Farmer’s Market (Saturdays, 9am–1pm).
The Chess Table welcomes players of any age and any skill level to sit down and enjoy a friendly game of chess. It’s a relaxed, community space where children, families, and adults can play, learn, and connect — and best of all, it’s completely free.
Although everyone is welcome, The Chess Table is especially geared toward children. Origami paper is always available, and young creators are encouraged to fold something imaginative while they play. I keep plenty of paper cranes ready, because I’ve always believed that every child who comes into the market should leave with a paper crane.
Summerside Chess Club
Summerside Chess Club is held in the ADL Room in the basement of the Summerside Rotary Library Saturdays from 3pm–5pm.
The Summerside Chess Club provides a structured, child‑focused learning environment for participants ages 4–17.
The program is offered free of charge, with registration being the only requirement.
Each weekly session includes:
-
a meet‑and‑greet
-
a guided chess lesson delivered through a PowerPoint presentation
-
supervised practice games
-
origami materials are always available, offering a creative outlet alongside chess instruction.
Parents are welcome to explore the library during club hours, knowing their children are engaged in a safe, educational, and well‑supervised program.
